No, Watch Generation 2 has a GPS Glonass, which is automatically activated when establishing an optimal satellite geolocation.
How to activate the GPS while using Sport Mode?
Before starting any of the sports modalities of the Watch 2, it is necessary to synchronize the Watch with the app.
After correctly synchronizing the Watch with the App, you can activate any sports mode and the GPS will automatically work.
Important: after performing these steps, it is not necessary anymore to have the phone near the Watch when doing sports.
To speed up the positioning of the Watch, please update the AGPS function when required by the pop-up in the App.
